MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. A MIDI file is a computer document that contains the performance of a musical piece in terms of the notes played and the timing of the notes. MIDI is a supported standard therefore any sounds created on one synthesizer can be played and manipulated on another synthesizer.
Computers that have a sound card with a MIDI interface can access sounds created by these synthesizers. The sound editing software can then manipulate the MIDI files to create new sounds and sound effects.
The MIDI format reduces sound to a series of values that describe the pitch, length, and volume of each note. Other characteristics of the note, such as attack and delay time, can be included in the MIDI file.
Please note that since the Midi format are commands given to your PC or Music Keyboard, the sound will be generated from your PC or Music Keyboard.
